Dear Families,
Whew!!! That week just flew by. Even with the indoor recess on the first day of Spring! We had our field trip to the MN Book Arts this morning. It went really well. The kids were wonderful listeners and their accordian books turned out great. Our next job will be to fill them with words and pictures after Spring Break.
This week we wondered with non-fiction books. The kids had a little bit more difficult time with this skill. They weren't sure what kind of questions to ask. We talked about good question words being where, what, how, when.
We told and wrote how to books. We asked the kids what they were really good at doing. Then we asked them to explain how to do that to someone who doesn't know how to do it. They were able to write these quite easily.
We took a science test on weather and seasons this week.
In math we added equations in our math books. We also learned what a triangular prism is.
No new sight words this week. We played Sparkle 3 times this week to work on spelling the sight words that we already know how to read.
No new word family this week either.
We went into the computer lab for 30 minutes and the kids got their choice of what to play on them. Using a mouse is getting easier for some of them:)
We used a black crayon to draw a vase and spring flowers. Then we used water colors to paint them. They are hanging in our room making it look like Spring since looking out our windows is not very Spring like. We also write about our favorite Springtime activities and brainstormed signs of Spring.
We made a mess in our classroom yesterday. A big one!!! We made bird nests and today we will put three baby birds in them.
Just a reminder that I will be leaving on Spring Break a little early. I will be in class on Monday and then gone the rest of the week. The children will have the same sub the whole week and she has been in the room before. I know they will be fine.
Remember Beach Day is Thursday and the kids can wear shorts and flip flops. Make sure they have sweatpants or something for recess time. No swimsuits!
Have a great break!
