Week of March 11-15

Dear Families,

We had a fabulous week. I do enjoy the kids so much!

McColl Pond was cancelled this morning due to the weather.  We still did most of the same activities in the classrooms. The kids rotated as a class to each kindergarten teacher for a different science lesson.  The kids used magnifying classes to look at animal tracks, did an experiment with dancing raisins, and did a temperature experiement.  There were other things as well.  Ask your child about it.

A highlight of our week was making leprechaun traps in teams of 3. The kids worked for almost 40 minutes on their traps. Then they had to write about their traps. How they would work to catch a leprechaun. We didn't catch any leprechauns last night but we did find a hat he left behind and he left us a special treat which most of us ate during our Friday movie for rest time.

Animal visits this week- Cassidy brought her guinea pig Larry and Mrs. Ryan brought the real Mikko in for a visit.

Our word family-ub words    rub, tub, hub, sub, etc. We didn't have any new sight words this week.  We are working on being able to recognize and spell the ones that we have.  Some that the kids could work on are: some, come, where, little, and there.

We read several non-fiction stories and the kids made connections to them. We also learned the difference between fact and opinion.

We made a leprechaun and a pot of gold this week.  We used Lucky Charms to do a graph for math today.

In math we are working on what makes 10, patterns, and dot to dots.

For those of you sho have been asking about Raz Kids and the I-pad, I discovered an app that you can purchse for $2.99 called Puffin that will allow it to work.  Also, on my website I have links to Megamath games that your child can play at home.

We know have 3 ipads in our classroom all of the time that I will be using to help meet the needs of all kids. Sometimes it will be used for those who need extra exposure to skills and sometimes it will be used to enrich children.  I am excited about this. Thanks to our PTC for purchasing them for us!

Have a nice weekend!
