April 15-19

Unbelievable weather we are having. Who would have guessed having a late start due to snow on April 19th? The kids were a little confused this morning as to why they would go to lunch right when they got here. They were a little wound up and excited about it!

Highlight of the week: We have eggs in an incubator and are expecting baby chicks in 21 days!!!

Reading strategies this week.

We learned Skippy Frog- skip the unknown word and keep on reading. Then hop back to it and try again.

Tryin Lion- reread the sentence and try a word that makes sense.

The kids are really taking these strategies seriously and trying them when they come to an unknown word. We have been practicing with books in our book bins.

Sight words- of and saw

Poetry- We wrote poems about people, food, and what is in our own hearts.  We tried to illustrate them as well.

In math we learned to tell time to the hour and half hour. Then we focused on measurement. We learned to measure using square inch tiles.  We also talked about other things we use to measure with.

We started our animal unit in science. This week we focused on living and non-living things.  What animals need to survive and the similarities and differences between animals.  The kids worked in partners to compare two animals using a venn diagram. They also looked in National Geographic magazines and found an animal they liked and wrote a sentence about that animal. We will be writing non-fiction animal reports very soon!

It was a great week. The kids were kind and good listeners. They are getting so smart!!!!

Have a nice weekend. Hope to see some of you at the PTC Carnival tomorrow.  We will bring Mathew and Laura!
