May 13-17

Dear Families,

Wow! Well we survived the first week of warm weather.  The kids were definitely excited about it and the noise level in the room reflected it.  Today has been much better. Could be the absence of the sun.  Not sure.  Nevertheless it was a productive week.

We continues our study of zoo animals. We completed a Venn Diagram comparing zebras and giraffes. The kids finished making monkeys and wrote monkey facts.  We made a zebra as well.
The kids asked 10 of their friends what zoo animal was their favorite and made a bar graph and tally mark graph. We looked at our own fingerprints and a friends and compared them in a science inquiry.

Today we took a trip with our imaginations. We read If I Ran the Zoo by Dr. Suess and then the kids designed their own zoo creating at least 4 made up animals. We took time to share with the class their favorite animal and give complements to each other. They turned out really well.

In math we continued working with 10.  The kids had to find the partners of 10 and list all of them. They also worked on subtraction this week. I was surprised how easy it was for most of them.

We walked to McColl Pond and used magnifying glasses to look at different objects. We recorded what they looked like with only our eyes and then what they looked like through a magnifying glass.

We played Sparkle with our sight words a couple of times this week and next week we will unscramble them.

Finally, we watched our chicks grow and change this week.  The kids got a couple of opportinites to observe, touch, and hold the chicks. We are saying good-bye to them today and they will go to Waderich store to live.  So, if you ever stop by you just might see one of our baby chicks. They were lots of fun.

Have a nice weekend.  As always, please call with questions or concerns.
