Fun Week in Kindergarten

Highlights of our week:

We had a fabulous science presentation by Professor Wacky. He showed us so many fun experiments and made a huge mess!  The kids were the most excited I have ever seen them. Hopefully they shared some of it with you last night.

Bob Geshe came and told us a story about him on the farm when he was a little guy.  He is a very entertaining guy and there was lots of laughter throughout the story.

We learned about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln this week. The kids made a construction paper George and a paper plate Abe. They will be on display for conferences.  In addition the kids were given a partner and they read a book about George Washington with a partner and then used sticky notes to write what the book reminded them of, what they wondered about, and one thing they learned from the book. We shared our learning with the class.

We did a classroom experiment with an egg in vinegar. The kids made their own hypothesis about what would happen to the egg. Then we observed the egg and wrote our final conclusions. The kids loved this experiment. We compared the egg to the enamel on our teeth and the vinegar to pop.  Ask your child what too much pop could do to their teeth.

I did a set word check in and word family check in with the kids to be able to share with you at conferences.

We didn't have new sight words or a new word family this week.

We started Unit 4 in math.  We are working with partners of 10.  We learned that there are patterns in the partners of 10.  We looked for them.  We started telling grocery store math stories using addition and subtraction.  Finally we looked at aab and abb patterns and created our own.

Have fun in all the new snow this weekend!
